The 19th World Conference of the International Society of Family Law will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye from 9-12 September 2026, under the title “Family Law & Vulnerability”.
The conference is held on-site only, and English will be the conference language (proposals for panels in other languages can be considered).
Conference Theme
Family law encounters vulnerability in various forms, including socio-economic disparities, domestic violence, child welfare, and mental health issues. The conference explores vulnera-bility in family law by examining the dynamics of power, agency, care or support structures and dependencies between spouses, partners, parents and children, and between extended fam-ily members. The conference welcomes international and comparative or interdisciplinary ap-proaches to vulnerability in family law.
Paper Proposals
The Call for Papers will be launched in September 2025.
The deadline for submissions is January 19, 2026.
Participants are welcome to propose individual presentations or collective panels. Panels may explore various themes, including – but not limited to – the legal dimensions of differential power dynamics present within society, with a particular focus on their impact on access to family justice.
Proposals should be prepared with a proposed title, an abstract of no more than 300 words, and the participant’s name, position, and affiliation. If the proposal is for a panel, it should also include the names and affiliations of all proposed participants.
Conveners
The conference conveners are Prof Başak Başoğlu and Prof Ceyda Süral Efeçınar of the Pîrî Reis University.
