The Impact of Fundamental Principles Governing International Maritime Law Decisions on Turkish Maritime Law
This project aims to shape the future of Turkey’s maritime sector by conducting an in-depth analysis of the influence of international judicial decisions on Turkish maritime law. The study will offer a fresh perspective on Turkey’s maritime policies by examining rulings from prominent judicial bodies such as the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the International Court of Justice, and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on matters including maritime jurisdiction, maritime trade, and the seabed. Considering Turkey’s geopolitical position and maritime strategies, the project will assess the impact of these decisions on national interests and develop concrete policy recommendations. One of the key contributions of the project is the translation of international judicial decisions into Turkish, providing a valuable resource for academics, legal professionals, and institutions involved in maritime policymaking. Additionally, a research book analyzing these decisions from a legal perspective will be published to guide Turkish maritime law policies. The project will also focus on training qualified legal professionals capable of representing Turkey in the international arena. Workshops, training sessions, and meetings will be organized to provide young lawyers with research opportunities and practical experience in international maritime law. Beyond being an academic study, this project aims to enhance Turkey’s awareness of international maritime law policies through collaborations with key stakeholders such as Maritime Law Research Centers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Chamber of Shipping. This comprehensive initiative is a significant step toward strengthening Turkey’s strategic position and influence in the maritime sector.
